God gave us the Animal Kingdom and told us to use it wisely -- but respectfully. That is what I have been trying to do through my animal sanctuary this last year or so. The results, the feedback if you will, from the birds, has been so overwhelming that I cannot say that this is a coincidence or that this is just a reaction – it was far more than something that happens to someone who was just being nice to members of the Animal Kingdom
I do not believe I'm anthropomorphizing either. What I see on a daily basis is akin to Busby Berkely and his magnificent cinematic achievements from the 1930s. I see birds dancing, I see choreographed routines where the birds perform intricate and complex maneuvers -- and it appears they are doing this for me. When I go outside, the hummingbirds fly to within inches of my face to say hello and to wish me a good day. They do this every day, and sometimes multiple times in a single day.
Around 3:30 PM when I go out to put down the seed for tomorrow morning's breakfast ritual, the sparrows are waiting for me on our back wall. They line up quietly, around three dozen come and watch me deposit the seed. The effect that this has on me is more than overwhelming. It is a glorious tribute to the relationship I have established with these of the smallest creatures. They know they have a sanctuary here, that they can feel safe. They do cartwheels in the air, two of them will do some somersaults simultaneously. This is not an accident; it is not a coincidence. It is hard to speak about these things and not make it look like I'm trying to portray myself as something unique and special. I am not, nor am I trying to be.
